All of the main characters were the same person. All the peripheral characters were dupes. All the locations were the same. I got NO sense that Turkey was any different from Washington DC.

I really tried so hard with this... but the - as Barner put it "contempt for ordinary people" is so very integral is made it more and more difficult to read until I gave up with about 10% of the book unread.

Interesting! I remember you talking about this at the time. I would not be surprised if Banks had read this and at least had it in the back of his mind - like Harrison and My Sweet Lord.

The orenda went long into February for me, so I never bothered starting this book, knowing I would never get it finished. It looks good and I am very sorry to miss it!

I know a fair amount about the situation for a layman from casual reading, and i thought aside from the more magical things happening it didn't disagree with anything I knew for fact. In detail it may be wrong, but that didn't bother me in reading.
