There is so much violence that it becomes part of the landscape, and unworthy of explicit description. Everyone knows what a bombing is like. You can just refer to it in passing, like a bus.

The diversity was one of the book's strengths. Everyone was different, and it was fine. That's just the way things are. it seemed unfeigned and unforced.

Like Neil, I like the mental enemy - invisible and sickening, but Vance did this so much better in his novella Nopalgarth. I would use that as a model rather than The Mind Parasites.

No. The attempt at justification was interminable and ludicrous.

I was hoping to read a more modern Lovecraftian horror tale without the blatant an unapologetic racism and mysogyny. This was not a horror story at all, and had all the contempt and hatred intact.

I am fairly sure that all the other people in this story were figments of Austin's imagination - slightly distorted mirror images of himself. No one else actually existed, and Austin himself never changed.
