Travel Light 5 - Controversy
Naomi Mitchison established a reputation for herself as willing to tackle controversial or challenging topics, especially around sex and relationships, and this is made very obvious in some of her other books. Choosing Travel Light as a book to re-release in a modern edition was a comparatively tame choice - too much so? Would you have liked more counter-culture challenges in it?

I was a bit surprised at this being a book for young readers, as it seems to dive into subjects I would think young people wouldn’t have much background with (like Ragnarok) but to treat those things as if the reader already knew something about them. So that was one of the things I found jarring - the fairytale beginnings then quickly becoming what I think of as adult content. Tackling sex would have made it even less a young person’s book, so I would have been more surprised if that has been included.
I gather Theres done connection between this book and The Corn King and The Spring Queen, a historical novel presumably for adults, and seemingly her most highly regarded.
