A Christmas present
Hi all, one of my Christmas presents was Tolkien's Treasures:

which is a most beautiful little book which I chanced to see in a local art shop here in Grasmere. It's predominantly pictorial with only some short prose sections laying out little bits of background. Very little of the prose came as a surprise (though I did find something that bears on @Ray_Otus 's post on the original Hobbit edition) but the pictures are splendid! The author / publisher has presented a lot of the pictures with the whole ting on one side and a zoomed-in portion facing, so you can see detail.
Apparently it's a short version of Tolkien: Maker of Middle-earth which has much more prose and quite a lot more pictures, but this was a delight to find.

Very nice. I've always admired Tolkien's art.
