In all fairness I don't think I got far enough into it to tell! I kept thinking that I must be on the verge of some great revelation about the world, but it never seemed to come. Maybe by the end?
I can only speak for myself, but even though I finished it I never once felt like the story got tied up into something that was coherent. The big reveal should have been one of those "Aha!" moments as the structure of the book had me thinking it was two storylines going on at the same time, but in actuality it isn't. But I just didn't really care by that point. Thinking on this some more it actually frustrates me because clearly the author has cool ideas and the ability to write well but it felt like the book wa such a structured mess that I missed out on what should have been (and what others experienced) a great reading experience.
