4. Infinity: A Bridger's Story - Violence

1

This story was full of close up, graphic violence. Visceral, bone breaking, blood spurting gore. How did you feel reading it? Did it work as written? Did it make sense on its own terms?

Meh. I hardly noticed. Somehow the violence in the Orenda was worse.

To me it was kind of like cartoon violence or super-hero violence - loads happening but not really affecting the reader. Totally agree about The Orenda, and I think this was because that was much more about the people as individuals who we had got to know

As Richard says, it was cartoon-like. I didn't much care about the characters, so I didn't much care about what happened to them.

The descriptions of in-the-moment fighting, mainly at the beginning, seemed almost plausible, but didn't really gel with how I thought about sparring when I was doing it. It was more like how someone with little actual experience would think that fighting would happen.

The DIY cage at the end made me laugh.

There was a lot of violence, yet the violence never convinced me. As Apocryphal mentions, the violence is far more brutal and real in Orenda, which I did not like for other reasons entirely, If you are going to write about violence, do it right.
