I haven't read 'The Princess Bride'; I've only seen the film, but I understand what you mean. Interestingly, the cartographer who's created the map for the Lyonesse RPG also created the map for The Princess Bride RPG.
Stick with the book though; like many really good stories, it takes a little while to set up all the main protagonists and plots, but once things get going the effort is rewarded.

I didn’t notice the change but after a certain point I was flying through it and then the next two books as well.
I’m disappointed now that there aren’t more.
